"We're Moving Ahead" We are The New and Improved Wichita Falls Railroad Museum because the current "team" will be working and planning to make many good things happen at the Museum for the 2011 seasons. This Museum has accomplished things recently and has seen some very positive moves that it has never seen before in its history.

Finished! Ok, we have finished all of the security bars and "doors" on the gift shop! And for security bars, it looks pretty good too. The really good feeling is knowing that the vandals won't be inside the building anymore. See below.

Yes, the Vandal was caught, but not in the act. Wichita Falls Police dept. found him in the Archer County jail where he was doing time for who knows what. He admitted to breaking into our museum Gift Shop on several occasions. This was an expensive ordeal, to the tune of $2500.00, for the WFRRM as windows and protection is not cheap, but we are glad it's over.

It's Clean Our Main Street looks so neat and clean now with all ther rocks swept off! It hasn't looked this good in a while. Thanks Guys!!!

Thank You Guys!!! If we havent told you guys lately, Thank You, for your service to the Museum and we appreciate everything you do! It's your dedication to the Museum on a regular basis, that has created the "Action Team". You are a huge part of this organization! Thank You Ray, Kenny & Bob for being a big part of the Action Team.

Stroll & Roll Museum Day Saturday the 10th of September was S & R Museum Day. We all had a great time. Lots of visitors and lots of smiles and laughter from the kidos. Ray kept the Kiddie Ttrain going, Kenny, Bronna & Teresa kept the gift shop going and Bob and Kevin kept the Pump Car going. Kevin has morning shift & Bob had afternoon shift.

Everybody involved made the Museum shine in the light of the Wichita Falls Museum Day.

A message from the President

Huge thanks go out to all of the volunteers that worked the Stroll n Roll Museum Day and the Texas Oklahoma fair on behalf of WFRRM. We estimate around 400 people came through the gates of the Railroad Museum on Saturday, September 10. It was great fun. We had the kiddie train running, the pump car pumping, and a few laps being made in the model train car. Some of the participants took part in our scavenger hunt and won free family memberships for the remainder of the year.

As we move into Fall, we look forward to even more adventure. We plan to have a memberís open house annual meeting on Saturday October 22 details will be sent to all WFRRM members a little later. We may even have some ghoulish excitement the following weekend as part of the zombie crawl and 5k makes its way through the Museum grounds. We will also be taking part in City Lights again this year.

Look to your e-mail, this newsletter, and our Facebook page to keep you updated on the happenings at the Museum. If it has been a while since you made your way down for a visit, please make plan to do so. It may not be spelled the same but there is a reason there are two uís in museum. We are nothing without you. Come see us.

Upcoming events WFRRM will be a part of include:

  • Zombie Crawl & 5k run - Saturday, October 29, 2011 (6:00pm Ė 9:00pm)
  • City Lights - November 19th (4:00pm till 8:00pm - Parade starts at 7:00pm)
  • "4th in the Falls" celebration at MPEC December 31st beginning at 6pm

We need volunteers during project days and on Saturdays.
If you would like to volunteer, please, send us an e-mail at:

Looking back in history The shiney Texas Zephyr train as it sat many times loading & unloading in front of the Wichita Falls Union Station Depot. In the photo below we can see a little of the depot. Nowdays our steam locomotive 304 sits almost where you see the automobiles parked.

facebook below the Zephyr photo, see the facebook post from Cynthia Laney and Crystal Adler at Downtown Wichita Falls Development. Thank You, Cynthia and Crystal for making us shine on facebook again. We appreciate all the help we get.

Texas Oklahoma Fair We were in the T/O Fair again this year. We had a great time there too. A Big "Thank You" goes to all who helped at the booth and made it a success again this year.

Fair Manager Joe Tom White, who invited us back, said the people really love having the Kiddie Train to sit in and get their photos taken and the booth is a big hit too.

We are looking for more than a few good members, and we need YOU to be one of them.

Like many historic preservation museums, we are in need of funding to continue future operations and growth. Limited funding means we don't always get to maintain our equipment as we would like. Our overhead is not huge. However, just paying the utilities each month often keeps us from painting, replacing wood, and doing necessary repairs of numerous items.

Our current monthly cost for utilities is approximately: Water - $60.00, Phone - $60.00, Electricity - $160.00, and Gas - $20.00. Trying to maintain a family friendly entrance fee of $1 per person, we need 300 visitors a month just to cover these costs. If you like our Museum, like what you see, and like what we bring to the community, please help by becoming a member. Thank You.

We have several levels of membership to fit your budget.

____ Railroad Tycoon - $500+

____ Engineer - $250+

____ Brakeman - $100+

____ Conductor - $50+

____ Passenger - $20+

*All levels of giving include a one-year family membership (providing free entry into the museum, free rides on the kiddie train and pump car, the Railroad Museum Newsletter, and invitations to special events).

Tycoon and Engineer levels also have the opportunity to use the Pullman or Dinning Car at a reduced rate.

The "Mad About Pulmonary Fibroses" organization Entered the "Decorate a train car" contest that we had last November 20th at the Christmas "Downtown Lights Celebration", and won 1st place with their colorful decorations and lights in the Pullman Car. They went all out and did a fantastic job of decorating and making folks aware of their cause. Hats off to Crystal and everybody involved!!!!

We still need sombody who is willing to bring their Camcorder and tripod to the Museum during our events and video record parts of the event.

We are attempting to document these events for historical purposes, for the Museum Newsletters and archives. Electronic digital records are a must these days. Your camcorder can be analog (tape) and I will digitize the museum's copy & yours will be untouched.

Camcorder experience, photo journalism & such would be a plus.
