Welcome to the September Newsletter. We are still having fun and going strong. Lots of events going on and the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum is making things happen.

"We're Moving Ahead" is exactly what we are doing these days. We are becoming The New and Improved Wichita Falls Railroad Museum because the current "team" is working hard to make many good things happen within the museum with the help of Members and Board Members. This Museum has accomplished things recently and has seen some very positive moves that it has never seen before. We are planning many more events which we will tell you about later. Well done gang!!!! We will continue to move Ahead too.

It was a great weekend at the Musuem Saturday, September 4th was probably the biggest day of the season so far. As the temperatures continue to cool, we will probably see more days like this one.

It appears that the "Dollar Per Person" entrance fee at the gate is proving a success and a much needed move for the Museum. Not one complaint have I heard since it was started over a year or so ago, and the folks are still putting money in the Donation Box. We're doing it right! We're Moving Ahead!

The Kiddie Train is still puting big smiles on the kiddos faces and again this Saturday, a two year old enjoyed the train ride so much, he didn't want to get off when the ride was finished. His Mommy picked him up, calmed him down and wiped all the tears away and told him, "We will come back again." He was Ok by the time they passed through the gates. (This is the very condensed version.) :-)

Be sure to tell Teresa Hi at the gift shop. She has been doing a great job at the museum with the gift shop, opening and closing and meeting & greeting the visitors.

I will be placing TRAIN VIDEOS here each month for your Newsletter enjoyment.
Let me know if you like them.

Today on September the 7th, the Inmates put in a long day Painting the Kiddie Train. The weather threatened rain and the overcast was a welcomed sight. It didn't rain and the painting continued till the end of the day.

A Big "Thank You" goes to Craig Martindale, owner of the "Taco Casa" at 2201 Southwest Parkway for the fantastic "dinner on the Diner" for all who helped today. The "Taco Casa" at the Southwest Parkway and Taft intersection has Bean Buritos, Tacos, and Frijoles starting at .99 cents each and all their dishes are perfectly seasoned. (Taco Casa also has many more delicious items.) Everyone went back to work after the great meal, full and happy.
We're Moving Ahead!

The New Kiddie Train is looking great and there is still more to go. The signs and lettering still need to go on at this time.

We gotta have Sponsors so we are placing our current sponsors signs along one side of the train for the T/O Fair since the other side of the train will be up against the wall.

We will have a volunteer or volunteers assigned to the Kiddie Train at the T/O Fair to promote the train and sell Sponsorships for it also.

The Stroll n Roll Museum Day was a huge success at the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum. About 20 People on average were getting off the busses & trollys each time they stopped at the museum gates.

Charles Elmore helped a lot when he started routing the busses from as far as away as 2 blocks from the museum to the museum gates on 9th street. Some of the bus drivers were letting folks off the busses and they were having to walk a block and 2 blocks to get to the museum. Thanks Charles. It was smooth delivery and pick up after your help.

Artie Woods, Charles Elmore and Rusty engineered the Kiddie Train today. Bronna McNeeley was the Model Train operator in the Model Train car and did a great job all day. Teresa did her usuall good job in the gift shop prompting people to sign the guest book and selling gifts too. Mark Price and Joe Tom White welcomed the folks to the museum, visited with the visitors, hugged the babies, shook hands and passed out information.

September 9th Have I ever said, "You can never tell who may show up at the museum on a work day?" It's true. McGruff the Crime Dawg sent his owner, Artie Woods to the museum today to help out. Way to go Artie!!!! Come back again!!!

There is fun and enjoyment for everyone at the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum.

Setting in the shade with a good breeze was certainly a welcomed break from painting as everybody had Arby's roast beef burgers from Melvin Richard's Arby's at 5th and Holliday. They could not have had a better picnic with piping hot roast beef burgers and cookies for desert. Water and sodas quenched their thirsts.

Downtown Lights Celebration November 20th We will have at least one Kiddie Train in the parade that evening as well as festivities going on at the museum. Yes, food, Sodas, Hot Coffee, Hot Chocolate, and we are going to have fried pies this year. They were such a success year before last, folks were asking about the fried pies last year and we had not booked them because our fried pie man moved away. Now we know how big of a hit they made with everyone and we will have Cherry, Peach, Appricot, and Apple. If you would like to help out on the train this year with the celebration, please e-mail, call or make contact with us so we can get you a spot whether it be car sitting, serving coffee, hot chocolate, sodas, or some of the food. We will also need to decorate the trains inside and perhaps outside. If you would like to volunteer for any of this, ride in the kiddie train in the parade, or just help out at the museum, let us know. We will have more information as it gets closer.

Have you got some ideas for us this year. Maybe bring a Popcorn Machine and you serve fresh hot popcorn from a caboose? Have you got a Cotton Candy machine and willing to bring it and operate it? Got decorating ideas and want to do it? We will consider ideas.
