"We're Moving Ahead" We are The New and Improved Wichita Falls Railroad Museum because the current "team" will be working and planning to make many good things happen at the Museum for the 2011 seasons. This Museum has accomplished things recently and has seen some very positive moves that it has never seen before in its history.

4th in the Falls Postponed Due to Dry Conditions

Due to extremely dry weather in the City of Wichita Falls the “4th in the Falls” celebration has been postponed. The event, in it’s entirety, has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 3rd beginning at 6pm.

Our Kiddie Train is scheduled to be inside the Exhibit hall giving rides to all. Yes, in the airconditioned comfort. Come join us!!!!

Photos below show the first few workdays of the season went really well. Inmates got back to painting the speeders and they are really looking good. Grass was mowed, trimmed and looks good too.

Again Lunch in the Dining car was a big hit. Delicious Pizza Hut Pizza and videos allowed the inmates to eat, rest, and energize before starting back to work. They loved the pizza as they do not get pizza at their detention facilities. Thank You Jacksboro Hwy Pizza Hut.

Photos below show another workday of June. The inmates pretty much finished painting the speeders and and now all they need are the wheels painted.

The smaller guy is Papa's hero. He was pretty good help too!!! When having to decide between going to the Museum or staying home to be a Papa to my Grandson, I made both options work. We had Papa day at the museum and he loved it.

The steel has arrived as seen in the truck & trailer photo and the welder arrived at the same time which makes for a good combination to start working on the security bars on the gift shop.

The first of the steel window bars went on today as a test fit. The next ones are soon to follow.

The bars are on now as seen in the below photos and are looking good. The Door bars will be on probably the first or second week in July plus a cage for the air conditioner.

We are looking for more than a few good members, and we need YOU to be one of them.

Like many historic preservation museums, we are in need of funding to continue future operations and growth. Limited funding means we don't always get to maintain our equipment as we would like. Our overhead is not huge. However, just paying the utilities each month often keeps us from painting, replacing wood, and doing necessary repairs of numerous items.

Our current monthly cost for utilities is approximately: Water - $60.00, Phone - $60.00, Electricity - $160.00, and Gas - $20.00. Trying to maintain a family friendly entrance fee of $1 per person, we need 300 visitors a month just to cover these costs. If you like our Museum, like what you see, and like what we bring to the community, please help by becoming a member. Thank You.

We have several levels of membership to fit your budget.

____ Railroad Tycoon - $500+

____ Engineer - $250+

____ Brakeman - $100+

____ Conductor - $50+

____ Passenger - $20+

*All levels of giving include a one-year family membership (providing free entry into the museum, free rides on the kiddie train and pump car, the Railroad Museum Newsletter, and invitations to special events).

Tycoon and Engineer levels also have the opportunity to use the Pullman or Dinning Car at a reduced rate.

The "Mad About Pulmonary Fibroses" organization Entered the "Decorate a train car" contest that we had last November 20th at the Christmas "Downtown Lights Celebration", and won 1st place with their colorful decorations and lights in the Pullman Car. They went all out and did a fantastic job of decorating and making folks aware of their cause. Hats off to Crystal and everybody involved!!!!

Subject: Caboose Color

Good Morning...

The city of Denison, Tx has placed an MKT caboose in our downtown area and has asked our museum about the color of red to use.

I see on your website that you have recently redone one that looks real nice. Could you furnish us with the type of paint you used and the color?

Judy Nickson
Red River Railroad Museum

Hello Judy..........

And Thank You for your interest in the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum and our MKT caboose.

Floquil MKT Red, is what I was told from the person who coordinated the paint from the authentic and actual color.

The paint is water base paint. Numerous paint manufacturers and commercial painting contractors have insisted water based paint because in solid colors it lasts longer, and is the best.

The paint was rolled on and not sprayed and cost about two thousand dollars with primer, per caboose.

Hope this helps.

Lots of folks are having fun at the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum.

A message from the President

Summer is in full swing at the WFRRM and we would love to see you. We have been teasingly telling people that they get a free sauna with their tour of the Museum. It is warm but it also is fun to see and feel history. You can sit in the passenger car and imagine what you would have done to kill time without a DS. You can check out the kitchen section of the Pullman and think about what you would have had for dinner if you had been part of the crew. You can even check out the engines or a cabooses.

We had a great visit a week or so ago with some young people from SAFB. They enjoyed the tour, and loved the pump car ride. The grins were a great reward. I owe a big thanks to my husband, Bob for taking them on a short ride in 90-degree heat. Their leader said they could not stop talking about it on the bus ride back to the Base. If you have a group, you would like to bring down for a tour just let us know. We will do what we can to accommodate you. Enjoy your summer and come see us.

Upcoming events WFRRM will be a part of include:

  • "4th in the Falls" celebration at MPEC September 3rd beginning at 6pm
  • Stroll ‘n Roll (Museum Day) - Saturday, September 10 (10:00 – 5:00)
  • City Lights - TBA (Sometime in November)
We need volunteers during project days and on Saturdays.
If you would like to volunteer, please, send us an e-mail at:

From Newsletter Editor
We still need sombody who is willing to bring their Camcorder and tripod to the Museum during our events and video record parts of the event.

We are attempting to document these events for historical purposes, for the Museum Newsletters and archives. Electronic digital records are a must these days. Your camcorder can be analog (tape) and I will digitize the museum's copy & yours will be untouched.

Camcorder experience, photo journalism & such would be a plus. Shakey videos can't be used, hence, the need for a tripod.

"We're Moving Ahead"............... See you at the Museum!
