As it has turned out........, So much progress has been made, we are adding an extra "between months" newsletter this time. When there are lots of things happening, we have lots of news. Have I said, We're Moving Ahead" yet? We sure are, and proud to be making lots of progress at the museum.

We will probably continue to push ahead and work as hard as we are till about December when it starts getting extremely cold. By that time the season has fairly well ended and we will be wrapping up the year end with the excitement of the Downtown Lights Celebration which will be on November 20th.

Downtown Lights Celebration November 20th We will have at least one Kiddie Train in the parade that evening as well as festivities going on at the museum. Yes, food, Sodas, Hot Coffee, Hot Chocolate, and we are going to attempt to get fried pies again this year. They were such a success year before last, folks were asking about the fried pies last year and we had not booked them because our fried pie man moved away. Now we know how big of a hit they made with everyone. If you would like to help out on the train this year with the celebration, please e-mail, call or make contact with us so we can get you a spot whether it be car sitting, serving coffee, hot chocolate, sodas, or some of the food. We will also need to decorate the trains inside and perhaps outside. If you would like to volunteer for any of this, ride in the kiddie train in the parade, or just help out at the museum, let us know. We will have more information as it gets closer.

Have you got some ideas for us this year. Maybe bring a Popcorn Machine and you serve fresh hot popcorn from a caboose? Have you got a Cotton Candy machine and willing to bring it and operate it? Got decorating ideas and want to do it? We will consider ideas.

Welcome to the July/August Newsletter. Lots of good things are happening at the Wichita Falls Railroad Nuseum. We have learned that the Inmates absolutely love coming to the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum to work, get out in the sun and eat Non Jail food. Well fellas, we appreciate it too. These guys team up and get lots of work done. We are grateful for this program of the Wichita County Sheriff's Office.

Another "fund raiser" in the mill, is the possibility of selling tickets on perhaps a new Flat Screen Tv at each Gun & Knife show. With the broad interests of the attending audiences of the Gun & Knife show, a Television is something that the entire family could use and a popular household item. Other similar non-profit organization booths are collecting 2, 3, and 4 thousand dollars over the year with only 5 Gun & Knife shows each year with ONE DOLLAR tickets. The "We're Moving Ahead" WFRRM could use this!!!

"We're Moving Ahead" is exactly what we are doing these days. We are becoming The New and Improved Wichita Falls Railroad Museum because the current "team" is working hard to make many good things happen within the museum with the help of friends and Board Members. This Museum has accomplished things recently and has seen some very positive moves that it has never seen before. Well done gang!!!! We will continue to move Ahead too.

A membership goal of 100 and a Kiddy Train sponsorship goal of 15 were set. We still need averyones participation. Many have their 5 memberships turned in from the "Get 5 New Members Each" challenge. I for one can assure you it is easy. Hanging out in the Air Conditioned Gift Shop at the Museum on Saturdays really helps too.

National Museum Day is September 11th, Saturday. We need as many folks as we can get to help out at the museum. It's not work, it's just spending time around the visitors.

The Steam Train on track 3 is getting some much needed help. Two ramps to enter the Locomotive and the RPO car have been updated and one of them repainted.

Also the Memorabilia car is getting a new "Entry / Exit" ramp so the visitors will no longer need to walk all the way back to the steam engine where they entered, to exit. Visitors have indicated it would be nice to have an exit at the end of the walk. They are correct! Painting will be next and a special non skid paint will cover the ramp floor. The entry/exit will also serve two other purposes. One, being a security enhancement, where as anyone could walk into the car at any time. Two, it will make a Halfway point of entry or exit on the train when the Military Troop Sleeper car and BNSF caboose are finished and opened up for tours, which will be soon.

The BNSF caboose is almost ready and we have some new interest in the troop sleeper car from the local air base. This will be the first time in Years these 2 cars have been opened for tours. There will be More to see and more history. Remember, We're Moving Ahead.

A big hearty "Thank You" goes to Steve and Jimmy at Richards BBQ for the kind donation of Chopped BBQ Beef burgers, and chips meal furnished to the workers. The workers work hard and they eat good. Also thanks to Joe Tom White for engineering these tasks and transporting the meals!!! See? Benifits for all the workers.

Saturday 24th 2010 The museum was booming with visitors. About 75 people according to the sign in sheet. We heard nothing but bragging and compliments on the museum and what it had to offer. The only downside was the wasps and dirt dobbers, but a can of spray took care of that.

A special thanks go to Bob & Bronna McNeeley. Bronna is our Secretary and is a great help too. They have been keeping the museum open till we get a new regular Museum Keeper and Charles Elmore is working on that. Bronna and Bob have been really good to volunteer to help at the museum. You're doing a great job!!! We Thank You both!!! Bob was the engineer of the kiddie train this Saturday 24th of July. Job well done Bob!!! Bronna does an excellent job in the Gift Shop and making sure the folks sign in, answering questions and the telephone.

Texas/Oklahoma Fair In Wichita Falls - see Website - Lions Club Texas / Okla Fair and be sure to click on the 2008 photos and 2009 photos. You may just see someone you know. We will have a Wichita Falls Railroad Museum Booth where we will be selling railroad related gifts and Memberships. We are getting the new Kiddie Train ready for the fair and we will be selling sponsorships for it. We could still use a couple of volunteers. Thanks.

There is fun and enjoyment for everyone at the Texas/Oklahoma Fair.

Another Work Day, another meal, and much more progress. This work day we had Chopped Bar-B-Q beef burgers & chips thanks to the kindness of Joan and Alice Marie at Stanley's Bar-B-Q and we had "Dinner on the Diner". The air conditioning added comfort to the nostalgic atmosphere on the train and in the dining car. I heard several braggs and compliments too. Still...... "We're Moving Ahead."

You can never tell who may show up with their work clothes on, but they do and we appreciate each of you who come to help and get to know the museum. Thank You, Charles Elmore.

The kiddie train progress is going great. It should start looking really good in the next few weeks. It will make it's new debut at the Texas/Oklahoma Fair as the "Red White & Blue Train".

We're cleaning up everything in an effort to make th Wichita Falls Railroad Museum look better and take on a new shine!
Theres still more to get cleaned up so we can paint when the weather starts to cool down. As for now, the cleaning up continues to move forward.

Restaurants and Cafe's........

If you would like to donate meals to the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum "We're Moving Ahead" program, please contact Joe Tom White at 692-3766 for assistance. The "We're moving ahead" program utilizes Inmates from the Wichita County Sheriff's Office "Work Program", our Board Members, Deputy's, volunteers and museum members for manpower in painting, cleaning, mowing and general labor. These folks work hard and appreciate a good meal. You prepare it, we pick it up and deliver it.

If you make your charitable contribution or donation of meals, you too will get a customized ad in our newsletters with your logo, slogan & etc. You can make a great difference in the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum by helping others to feed the folks who work hard for the museum.

See the ad's below of the contributors who have been proud to sponsor such events. Your ad can show up here too!!! Subs... BBQ... Tacos... Hamburgers... Chicken... Dosen't matter.

Kenny has asked that if you see something that needs some attention at the museum, "don't send a message to him", just come on down & pitch in and give us a hand. He says we need more of our members being active participants even if you can't stay long. Don't be shy, We would love to see you there.
